Rural Fire
Pager Coverage Expansion System
In this system the Rural
Fire authority needed to inexpensively extend
the coverage of for its Fire fighters who carried pagers.
Using an ISDN link from
the dispatch centre to the fire station the
messages were sent to a PDT2000 located
in the fire station and to which was connected
a low power FM transmitter. The PDT2000 encoded
pocsag to output to the transmitter which transmitted
the messages to an SPPSF
Pocsag Store & Forward repeater located
on a nearby high point. The SPPSF repeated
the pocsag paging signal so
that fire personnel would receive these messages
on their pagers.
Additionally the PDT2000 in the station also
received the paging signal
from the SPPSF and was able to confirm transmition
of the message. The SPPSF was also set to regularly
transmit a check message which the PDT2000
monitored using its watchdog function enabling
it to report if the transmitter ceased functioning.
